We Love Seasons is a boutique Christmas brand like no other, and will be bringing a distinctive design style to Harrogate Christmas & Gift this year. Sarah Welsh found out more about this stunning contemporary collection…

‘Scandi-chic’, as many people call it, has been big business in the UK for several years now, but few festive companies can boast the beautiful contemporary designs and natural materials of We Love Seasons.

This boutique brand, established back at the end of 2018, offers stylish Christmas and seasonal celebratory pieces, with around 25% of the collections now designed by the founder and owner Malene, with this percentage only set to rise.

Malene Hails from Aalborg in northern Denmark, but has lived in the UK since 2004. She launched the company as a labour of love side project, whilst still working full time in finance, and the inspiration behind it was her mother’s artistic side and sheer love of creativity.
“My design style is very contemporary and authentic, and I’m also inspired by natural products,” Malene says. “I grew up with my mother cooking everything from scratch using produce from her kitchen garden, and making my clothes from designs I’d give her.
“At Christmas time I remember her getting the decorations ready weeks early – things made from felt and wood, hand-painted pieces and fresh pine garlands. She made everything beautiful and I still use much-loved pieces she created on my tree to this day.

We Love Seasons at Harrogate 2023

“I wanted to bring that real love of truly unique festive pieces to others. I always tend to choose something that’s different, something beautiful that stands out. And now our customers are getting the same thing through our We Love Seasons collections.”

The first few years after the business launched were challenging ones, with Malene very sadly losing her mother and then around 85% of her possessions due to soot damage following a fire in London. Add to this challenges for continental sales thrown up Brexit and a global pandemic and it’s easy to see that Malene and her team have been on a real journey.

But 2023 is looking like being a stellar year for We Love Seasons with the launch of a new tableware line designed by Malene at Harrogate, as well as Valentine’s and Easter collections being unveiled in the first two months of the year.

Plus the team is managing to be at both Harrogate, running from 15 to 18 January, and Top Drawer London – which runs from 15 to 17 January – at the same time, with high hopes for both shows.

“This is the first time we’ll be going to Christmas & Gift and we’re planning to push the boat out,” Malene says. “I think Harrogate attracts a different set of buyers to other shows, and the many independents who attend are perfect customers for us. It’s really nice to be able to focus on Christmas and our other seasonal collections, including Halloween, at the show.

“Plus I love the networking side and always learn a lot from my neighbouring stands. I’ve been on a learning curve since the beginning and it never stops.”
We Love Seasons’ Haunted Halloween range launched back in early 2019 and has proved incredibly popular, with stunning, original pieces, including straw, woollen and paper pumpkins and lovely wreath designs.

“It’s very popular along with our Christmas collection,” Malene says. “We don’t have a minimum order and often we’ve seen independents ordering pieces for their window displays as a starting point which then turns into their customers wanting to get in on the action.

“We’re lucky to have retailers right across the UK, but we also sell online.”

“I think 2023 is going to be a big year for us and I’m looking to become even more invested and grow the company. It’s been a labour of love from the start and that family inspiration runs right through everything we do.”
